I decided to start romanticizing the most simple things in life to appreciate them more. To black women, getting our hair done IS a form of therapy. Being able to sit in a chair and be vulnerable with the person holding what you physically care most for on your body is comforting especially when they allow room for it. I learned that from my favorite stylists. Looking forward to install days was always the best. You never knew if you were going to have a cry sesh, debates about bad bitchery, or just be able to laugh at the mistakes you’ve made in the past. To the many hair stylists that have made it a safe space for me and others, thank you keeping the legacy of the beauty shop alive. You are the heart of the hair industry and we need you all.
