Citizens For Justice's video: Fulton Fireworks War July 4th 2020

Fulton is a town of 12,809, located in the “Little Dixie” area of central Missouri. According to residents, the town has hosted an annual Fireworks War for decades. In the week leading up to the 4th of July, battles are waged in Fulton’s Carver Park. With the main event happening the night of the fourth. Participants shoot “box” fireworks, mortar shells, and roman candles are the war’s weapon of choice, allowing participants to fire numerous shots with a single light. Box fireworks occasionally malfunction and must be rapidly discarded. Participants suffer 2nd and 3rd degree burns during the wars. Those involved are aware of the risks and accept the possible consequences. Members of the Fulton Fire Department monitor the war from a nearby fire station. Law enforcement occasionally comes to monitor the war as well. The response is much more relaxed than in nearby cities such as Columbia that host wars. At the end of the battle, the park and surrounding streets are cleaned up of all debris caused by the war. The Fulton Fireworks Wars will return in the weeks leading up to July 4th, 2021.
