In 2018, City Lights presented the West Coast premiere of Kenneth Jones' drama "Alabama Story," which celebrates the real-life heroic librarian Emily Wheelock Reed. Reed made headlines standing up against a segregationist state senator to defend a sweet children's book about a black rabbit marrying a white rabbit. Original cast members Karen DeHart, Erik Gandolfi, Jeremy Ryan, Maria Giere Marquis and Steve Lambert returned to perform favorite scenes, joined by Austin Blake filling in for Bezachin Jifar. Kenneth Jones also joined us for a fascinating discussion about the play. This free Zoom event, held on Dec. 13, 2020, was part of City Lights' weekly streaming & video series The Next Stage.
