City Lights Theater Company's video: The Next Stage: Author Ehsaneh Sadr

We went from stage to page on Oct. 9, 2020, for a fascinating interview with local author Ehsaneh Sadr, whose new novel “A Door Between Us” is getting rave reviews. The book follows three very different people trying to navigate their way through complicated family dynamics. It’s also a tumultuous time: Iran in 2009, in the aftermath of massive political protests following a presidential election that many felt was rigged. Ehsaneh is an Iranian-American novelist and activist with a Ph.D. in international relations. She works with the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition to create the cultural and infrastructure changes needed to support a shift away from carbon-based modes of transportation. She’s also worked on campaigns related to Palestinian human rights, Iranian sanctions, access to credit for rural villagers, and safe spaces for children in crisis. Ehsaneh and her five brothers grew up in Tehran, Salt Lake City and a suburb of Washington, D.C., with a Mormon American mother and a Muslim Iranian father who kept the family active in both religious communities.
