City Lights Theater Company's video: The sisters of Silent Sky

@The sisters of "Silent Sky"
If there were ever a time when we needed to be uplifted… Last year, the courageous women of "Silent Sky" by Lauren Gunderson stood on our stage and invited us to dream big and high. Now we welcome back Maria Giere Marquis, who played the pioneer astronomer Henrietta Leavitt; and Jessica Whittemore, who portrayed her musician sister Margaret. In this Zoom event, the actors performed favorite moments from the play via short monologues and scenes, and shared with us how this work inspired them. Both are regulars on Bay Area stages, with Maria’s credits including "The Merchant of Venice," "Making God Laugh" and "Alabama Story" at City Lights; and Jessica’s including "She Loves Me" (South Bay Music Theatre), "The Tin Woman" (Tabard Theatre Company) and "The Producers" (Cabrillo Stage). With a special appearance by Dr. Elinor Gates from Lick Observatory! Extra thanks to Lauren Gunderson and Playscripts for giving us permission to perform brief excerpts from the script. Learn more about our streaming & video series The Next Stage at cltc.org/thenextstage. All programs are free to watch; we ask just that you make a donation in the amount you might pay if you attended in person, at cltc.org/donate. Thank you. And that cool audio at the beginning and end of the video? Thank NASA for its recording "Sounds of Saturn: Hear Radio Emissions of the Planet and Its Moon Enceladus." NASA has a fantastic SoundCloud!
