Is your skin oily? Does your skin feel sticky? Do you frequently get acne or pimples? Then today’s video is right for you. Today’s video is a guide to how you can manage oily skin. We all have different types of skin. Skin is broadly classified into 5 types, the first is normal skin, second is dry skin, third is oily skin, fourth is sensitive skin and the fifth is combination skin. Combination skin is dry in some areas and oily in some areas. Some of us have dry, sensitive skin which is prone to redness, inflammation, fine lines, scales, and so on. Some of us even have oily skin. So let us see what causes oily skin. Our skin has oil glands called sebaceous glands in the dermal layer. They keep our skin moisturized and form a thin protective layer of oil on the skin. This is important for the health of our skin. Sometimes for a variety of reasons these sebaceous glands get overactive and secrete excess oil or sebum. This can make your skin oily, greasy, and sticky. This oiliness causes the pores to get clogged with dirt and dead skin cells which may lead to acne breakouts. This oiliness is seen on the forehead, nose, and chin. This is also called the T-zone. This happens because our sebaceous or oil glands are concentrated in this area. Why do some people have oily skin? Your skin type is often based on your genetics. If people in your family have oily skin and a tendency to have breakouts, you may also have oily skin. Skin can become oily due to the hormonal fluctuations caused during puberty, pregnancy or menstrual cycles. Let’s discuss some important tips that you can use to keep your skin oil-free or control the oil production on your skin. Tip 1: Cleanse your face properly. Tip 2: Moisturize your skin. Tip 3: This tip is specifically for those people who use toner on their skin. Ideally, moisturizers are enough to keep your skin balanced. Tip 4: Use sunscreen. Tip 5: Do you scrub or exfoliate your skin to get rid of the oiliness or greasiness? Excessive scrubbing can cause your skin to get even more oily as it will cause your skin to feel that the necessary amount of oil is also not there. Tip 6: Use products that suit your skin type. Tip 7: Use oil-free and non –comedogenic makeup products. And always remove your makeup thoroughly before sleeping. Tip 8: If you have oily skin you should change your pillow covers and bedsheets frequently. Tip 9: You must have heard that acne can be treated with oral or topical medicines and in some cases, even medical procedures can be done. Tip 10: If you have very oily skin, you can use certain medicated creams as well. Retinols or vitamin A is a good option. So, it is quite easy to control oily skin. You just have to follow a consistent skincare regime. You have to cleanse and moisturize your skin, use sunscreen and sun protection, eat a balanced diet, and choose the right skincare products for yourself. You have to use oil-free or water-based products and light matte based makeup products. And always remember to properly remove your makeup before sleeping. Don’t over-exfoliate your skin and follow a fit and healthy lifestyle. You can control the oiliness of your skin by doing these basic things.
