@Race 5: What to expect | Sailing from West to East Coast of Australia | Clipper 2019-20 Race
Clipper Round the World Yacht Race - Race Director, Mark Light, shares some insight on what Race Crew can expect from Race 5. This 3,400NM race will see all 11 teams take on some tough physical sailing the West to East Coast of Australia, Fremantle to the Whitsundays. Cape Leeuwin marks the southwestern tip of Australia and is one of the three Great Capes that only a privileged few get to race past. The Race 5 route will take Clipper Race teams below the 40th Parallel for another Southern Ocean sleigh ride east towards the southern tip of Tasmania and into the Tasman Sea for the first time. As the teams sail north for a challenging race to the Whitsundays on the eastern Australian seaboard, the huge ocean swells, so popular with the Aussie surfers on the east coast, will continue to challenge kit, sails and crew stamina. Want to sail from the West to East coast of Australia and experience the might of the Southern Ocean and Tasman Sea? Why not sign up for the next edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race as a crew member and achieve something truly remarkable this decade.
