Clotheslinemedia's video: Fire Ravages Universal Studios

@Fire Ravages Universal Studios
http://www.clmnews.com/ Just hours before it was set to host the 2008 MTV Movie awards, a raging fire erupted at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. The fire broke out just before dawn this morning at around 4:30 AM and quickly spread through the studio's back lot. It's an erie repeat of the 1990 blaze that caused $25M worth of damaged to the same section of universal studios. Around 400 fire fighters were summoned to combat the blaze. That battle was made more difficult by what fire fighters describe as unsually low water pressure. Fire officials commented that the water was trickling out in anemic spurts and that the largescale sprinkler system installed after the 1990 fire failed to adequately assist in fighting the blaze. The fire could be seen from miles away, and the large scale fire raises health concerns from Air Quality officials. Despite those concerns the park was still set to open today. The park usually welcomes around 25,000 visitors on weekend days and Park officials are still planning to operate amidst the safety concerns. One of the main concerns for some is the burning of a chemical known to the motion-picture industry is perc. It is a chemical used to clean film and in studies has been linked to cancer. One Air Quality official was quoted as saying: "As far as I know, we have not been asked our opinion on whether or not the park should reopen," he also added: "I don't think we have the power or the authority to do that." Universal is still also planning to go ahead with it's presentation of the MTV Movie awards later this evening. The event will be attended by stars such as Will Smith. The event will take place at the Gibson Amphitheater which is only seperated from the fire by a strip of brush. No definite cause on what sparked the blaze this morning but certainly the large wooden structures some dating all the way back to the 1940's had a role in fueling the fire. No early cost estimates from this fire but a film vault housing 40,000 copies of film dating back to the 1920's in known to have been lost.
