Cluster B & Me's video: Codependency Narcissistic Abuse: Another Way To Blame The Victim

@Codependency & Narcissistic Abuse: Another Way To "Blame The Victim"
When it comes to narcissistic abuse and/or abuse by any Cluster B Personality Disordered person (borderline, sociopath, psychopath, narcissist, histrionic) or ANY manipulative/toxic and abusive person, slapping the label of "codependent" on the person receiving the abuse is simply another way to blame the victim. By labeling the recipient of the abuse (ie what generically would be called the "victim" or the "abused" person in the relationship) a codependent, it is inherently attaching a number of psychological and/or emotional issues to that person -- and by doing so, it's saying that the victim had a role in the abuse, that their "codependency" allowed the abuse, fostered the abuse, attracted the abuser into their lives, etc. Basically, it's shifting the focus away from the disordered abuser and placing it back onto the victim. Moreover, the vast majority of mainstream therapists will take this approach in therapy. They will tell the victim to only focus on THEIR OWN "role" in the dynamic of the relationship and thus the abuse, and direct the victim to completely ignore their partners (boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/best friend/mother/father etc) role as an abuser. They often get away with doing this by labeling someone with an "official" issues of "codependency". It is my personal and professional belief that codependency is a generic term that really doesn't mean anything and therefore it can mean anything you want it to; I could bend the definition of codependent to fit nearly every non-Cluster B PD I know (which is 96% of people I know!). I believe that the idea of a codependent needs to be redefined and narrowed, because the vast majority of partners of narcissists / cluster b personality disordered people are NOT codependents. ----------------- If you need support for narcissistic abuse, emotional abuse, recovery, transforming your life, I'm a life coach and I specialize in recovery and healing from these type of personality disordered people, and working with clients to develop and maintain a happy and fulfilling life -- feel free to contact me at LifeCoachAutumnBlake@gmail.com Namaste & much love :) Autumn
