Cm's video: Carbet Mountains

@Carbet Mountains
Located at the north of the island, between Fort-de-France and Le Morne-Rouge, in Martinique Regional Nature Park, the Carbet mountains are a preferred destination for experienced hikers. Towering majestically over the Caribbean coast, this group of volcanic mountains has several peaks: the Piton Lacroix, also known as Morne Pavillon, 1,196 metres above sea level, the Morne Piquet at 1,160 metres; the Piton Dumauzé at 1,112 metres; the Piton de l'Alma at 1,107 metres; and the Piton Boucher at 1,070 metres. It's not uncommon to see trees grow to heights of 30 to 40 metres, in the extensive foothills, and at 1,000 metres above sea level the rainforest is replaced by savannah and thickets. Only experienced climbers should attempt to ascend the Carbet mountains because of their very steep slopes and slippery paths (due to the frequent rain). In addition, because it's a very long hike, you're advised to get there early in the morning if you want to complete your circuit. In the toughest parts, handrails and ropes are needed to get up the steepest slopes… No time to stop, you have to earn your access to these splendid natural sites! The bravest and most athletic will be rewarded with fabulous views of Martinique, especially in fine weather, including the Pelée mountain and the superb Fort-de-France Bay. However, bear in mind that the impressive Carbet mountain range can also be admired from several places all around it, for example from the splendid Balata garden!
