Coast Guard Foundation's video: Rescue Coordination Center Miami 2019 Tribute to the 7th Coast Guard District

@Rescue Coordination Center Miami | 2019 Tribute to the 7th Coast Guard District
In the early morning hours of September 13, 2018, while Hurricane FLORENCE raged in the northern reaches of District Seven, Jamaican Defense Forces notified Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) Miami of a large-sized crew abandoning a 131 foot commercial fishing vessel due to a fully engulfed destructive fire onboard. Although the initial reported position of the vessel was plotting near Serranilla Cay in Colombia’s Exclusive Economic Zone, communications with the vessel were soon lost. Recognizing the need for decisive action, RCC Miami contacted the U.S. Coast Guard Liaison Officer in Colombia who immediately began coordinating a joint Search and Rescue response between RCC Miami, the Colombian Navy in San Andrés and Bogotá, the Colombian Air Force, and the U.S. Department of Defense Tactical Analysis Team, Cartagena.
