The EMD SD45 is a diesel-electric locomotive produced for freight service in the 1960s and early 1970s. These locomotives were powerful, featuring 20 cylinder diesel engines but as a result, they also burned a lot of fuel. As a result, many of the major freight railroads retired these locomotives sooner than other similar units. Some were also repowered with more common 16 cylinder engines. Montana Rail Link number 355 was one of the last true 20 cylinder SD45 locomotives in regular mainline freight service. It is seen here in this short clip in June of 2023 leading a train over Bozeman Pass in Montana.
