Collier County Sheriff’s Office's video: CCSO Celebrates Jaxson Perez s Birthday

@CCSO Celebrates Jaxson Perez's Birthday
Jaxson Perez took the news well a couple of weeks ago when he learned his fourth birthday party would have to be canceled. The Golden Gate boy had big plans for a law enforcement themed birthday shindig, complete with a full costume, but COVID-19 was making get-togethers impossible. "I told him there was a virus and he said we could still make it special with just Mommy, Daddy and his brother, Jeremiah," his mother Jenny Perez said. But when Sheriff Kevin Rambosk caught wind, he figured there was still something nice he could do for the boy, even amid calls for social distancing. So Sheriff Rambosk along with two Golden Gate deputies took their cruisers to the boy's house Thursday, lights flashing. Jaxson smiled shyly as he walked out his front door wearing his police officer uniform, including handcuffs. "Give us a second Jaxson, we're gonna sing you a song," the Sheriff said as "Happy Birthday" began to play over the SUV's loudspeaker. Everyone maintained a safe distance, waving at Jaxson and skipping the high fives and handshakes. Deputies gave the boy several sanitized goodies tied up in a plastic bag, including a CCSO coloring book, beach ball, T-shirts and stickers. "Jaxson, look at this! Look at your sign buddy," his father Joe Perez said, pointing at a CCSO banner strung along one of the SUVs. Jaxson’s 3-month-old brother Jeremiah, dressed in black and white stripes as a robber, slept through the commotion. "Jaxson, tell them why you want to be a police officer," His mother said. "To ride in a real police car," he replied. "And what else?" she asked. "To catch --" "Bad guys," Jaxson said. "I think he's speechless," Jenny Perez said. Sheriff Rambosk, Lt. Gary Martin and Sgt. Brian Williams went home with goodie bags from Jaxson and flashed thumbs up to him on their way out, but not before the toddler got to take his new police motorcycle for a spin. "Careful, go slow," his father said, showing him the buttons and dials. "This is some of the most important work you guys do; the work with the youth," Jaxson’s grandfather, Bill Letchworth, said. "It's the most fun, too," Sheriff Rambosk said.
