ComicKairi's video: Expressive Arts Therapy - Cosplay Edition - Mayari Goddess of the Moon

In my Telehealth internship, I’ve had the privilege to provide therapy for clients who have been negatively affected by the (undeniably) ongoing pandemic. It’s been heartbreaking listening to stories from individuals whose lives have been turned upside down thanks to government inaction along with an unpredictable silent enemy lurking in the shadows. I’ve noticed that a common struggle for my clients is the inability to express themselves properly, in a way that feels the most authentic. A technique I’ve been encouraging in my sessions is Expressive Arts Therapy. Expressive Arts Therapy is creating with the intent to heal through your art. It’s been so beautiful seeing my clients express from the heart, and face their pain through creation. A project I did for one of my classes called for me to use this therapeutic technique on myself, and this is what sprouted. I was deeply inspired by artists such as @Kurboi, @Lasarasu, and @solicole. My interpretation isn’t perfect, it’s pure expression. Learning about our Philippine Goddess of the Moon, Mayari—brought me such joy and encouraged so much reflection.
