The man in the picture is Ernst Thälmann, leader of the Red Front, which was the paramilitary organization of the communist party during the Weimar Republic, before it was banned. Wedding, a locality in Berlin, was called "Red Wedding" for its militant, largely Communist working class, where communists and nazis had clashes in the 1920's.
