CompVid101's video: A Rollin Stone By Bob Shane The Kingston Trio

@A Rollin' Stone By Bob Shane (The Kingston Trio)
Bob Shane, the sole surviving founding member of the legendary American pop folk group the Kingston Trio, performs a solo written by the late San Francisco balladeer and folk artist Stan Wilson (1922-2005*). The song appeared on the Trio's third studio album, 1959's "Here We Go Again" - the third of the first five studio albums by the group to earn gold records and hit the spot on the Billboard Magazine charts. This album sold just under one million units - an unbelievable figure at the time in '59 - and held the top spot at Billboard for eleven consecutive weeks, still among the top twenty all time for any album by any artist. The Kingston Trio helped to popularize folk music like no group or soloist before them - but they never considered themselves folksingers and rejected the label. They started as a nightclub act in the now-legendary (and long gone) basement clubs of San Francisco, The Purple Onion and The Hungry i, and their repertoire consisted of folk-type numbers, calypso songs, Broadway and off-Broadway ballads, songs in a dozen foreign languages, and novelty tunes. The Trio was strongly influenced in this regard by Wilson, who was a local star when the KT was just starting out and whose professional generosity helped to shape the group's musical approach and propel them to an international stardom that he himself never attained. Wilson's jaunty, devil-may-care composition presented here seemed ideally suited to the voice, talents, and jaunty, devil-may-care attitude of Shane, who continues to make occasional appearances with the current troupe of the Kingston Trio, and every once in a while performs this song. *For much more on Stan Wilson, see "Kingston Trio Liner Notes" here: http://www.lazyka.com/linernotes/personel/WilsonStan.htm
