Construction Week Middle East's video: CW Expert Interview Siemens Tejas Vishwanath on the future of building management systems

@CW Expert Interview | Siemens' Tejas Vishwanath on the future of building management systems
Buildings today need to be many things: safe, smart, sustainable, productive, efficient and human-centric. These elements and requirements are dynamic, changing in the face of the ongoing crisis. "There is more that is required from building management systems (BMS) now," Vishwanath said. Siemens recently launched a digital contact tracing application Safe, as part of its Enlightened platform. The application helps assess - in the situation of a COVID-19-positive case - who came in contact with the person, thereby allowing necessary precautions. Explaining that Safe is Siemens' response to the ongoing pandemic, Vishwanath stressed on the need for businesses to adopt digital contract tracing. "We repurposed our existing offerings and developed a new application [called Safe] after noting the new challenges that businesses are facing." Speaking about the future of building management systems, he said: "Everything is happening remotely - banking, IT support and other functions - so, why should BMS not operate remotely?" The underlying question remains: will building technologies that have emerged during the pandemic sustain even in a post-COVID world? "All the changes businesses are making today are going to stay, especially because the benefits of the changes are visible. We will see businesses using these technologies to adapt to a new normal, which will be the norm then," Vishwanath concluded. Watch the entire interview for further interesting insights.
