Contact Stigmaweb's video: 1124 Van Halem Back on Stage

@1124) Van Halem Back on Stage
We're in your gorgeous house in Pasadena and I understood you grew up in Pasadena. My Pap first started his practice as a doctor, we lived in a place roughly this size of this little office here the Roth family, my sisters and I. And we worked our way up, and out and around that's been the classic tradition in Pasadena. I've been here for pretty much the length of Van Halen career -- this is, a lot of folks in my position like things and stuff -- an Italian sports car with a six-syllable name and an Italian trophy wife with a five-syllable last name. This was the one material thing that I bought because the great outdoors. What did you want to be when you were six? What would you do when you grew up? I wanted to be things that were in books. I wanted to be a pirate. I wanted to work on an oil rig somewhere in Oklahoma and get into fist-fights in a beer bar. I wanted to go salmon and fishing and almost get killed. And what Dad had to say about these dreams? It was Pap who took me to all those movies that engendered all that. It was Pap who gave me all the books and encouraged me to read all of the magazines, etc but encouraged all of that and I did. The "Roth Show" is comprised with that. And you really had some incredible video ideas because in the 80's your first solo work, I mean some of the most iconic videos to ever hit MTV at that time. My visionary approach was to take Waldview and put him on MTV and also just technically lowering the cameras so you can see toes and tops -- watching the whole body. I want to talk to you about fashion a little bit because you always really had a sense of fashion. You know when you came out on the scene you really first made an entry yourself. That was a bit Collin Klein - you were fashion, your hair, I always remember you were wearing gloves -- which I loved. As far as style, well the hands were in every Disney characters you could think of starting with Mickey, and Goofy, Little Piggy, etc because it makes the hand little visible it also have the habit of tap dance. When you went back on stage for the first time with Van Halen as a band again, describe that moment your first reunion to your first show. It's actually familiar. It's not like riding a bicycle -- it's like a bicycle racing. When you trained with somebody for many, many years, you know the life that we led was wild and colorful, unpredictable but we lived together, we followed. Most people lose the enthusiasm for thinking -- that's wonderful. So a lot of people lament that. But we're loving it though, and you are loving it. When you are enjoying yourselves your fans are enjoying themselves. You are talking about you're not trying to match the last goal, so the first reunion tour - I think it brought something upwards to 9 million dollars. Are guys looking like, "We need to try to meet that" or not even worried about that, just go out there and have fun. Wow! If we need that money.... You state, "Money can't buy love but it can buy happiness"! We're now in Hollywood movies -- your music has been in so many movies. We're always in somewhere -- Argo. You didn't know. We got a big scene with "Dance the night away" there. I will be watching it. It will somehow show up -- it will be on the stereo in a pickup truck or will be coming out of a club as they walk by. We're part of not just the culture but we're part of the geography. Van Halen music goes along with like fries with the burger.
