The Shark ION P50 is designed more like an upright with the dust cup and motor closer to the base with a much larger capacity than the Dyson. So you can use this vacuum further without the need to empty the canister. The Dyson V8 has the more traditional design that we see in a lot of stick vacuums with the dust cup and motor in the same area as the handle. While the V8 is much lighter, it doesn't hold as much dirt and you'll need to hold the trigger to keep the motor running. Another big difference is the main cleaning head. The has two separate tools for cleaning hard floor and carpet respectively while Shark utilizes the Duo Clean head for all types of indoor surfaces. This lessens the need to constantly switch tools on every transition which saves time and effort. The Duo Clean head is one of the best options when it comes to cleaning surface dirt as it will pick up any size debris from fine dust to Fruitloop sized messes. Another feature I like is the LED headlights that help tremendously with visibility. It is decent on carpet but not as good as the V8 when it comes to deep cleaning. The Dyson V8 is lighter and better suited to be used as a handheld thanks to the compact frame and attachments. It comes with more attachments out of the box compared to Shark. Between the two I find myself using the Shark more when I need to clean floors since my home mostly has hard floors. Whereas I use the V8 more if I need a handheld vacuum.
