Craig Yack's video: STAR WARS: Squadrons Rebel Prologue PSVR 1

@STAR WARS: Squadrons, Rebel Prologue, PSVR #1
The is the Rebel mission in the Prologue. I played the XWing and TIE Fighter games from '93-'94 extensively. TIE Fighter is my favorite space combat sim - it elevated the material from XWing in spades. Later, XWing vs. TIE Fighter and XWing: Alliance came along. I didn't like those games as much - the single player expansion for XvT and the campaign for Alliance were just too hard in some places for me to feel like they were well composed experiences. I also played the Battlefront XWing VR demo, once. With all that said, I would say this game is... not bad. There are moments of thrill, but also moments of graphics of not great fidelity - which I guess is to be expected from PSVR. The graphics in the Battlefront XWing VR demo were a lot better. But it's nice to see a lot more ship variety in Squadrons. I would have liked a stronger sense of ambience from the capital ships. I don't entirely like the aim assist (it makes the game more of a shooting gallery), but at the same time, the ships zip around so fast, it isn't really about outmaneuvering them in a dogfight like I did in XWing and TIE Fighter. With them moving in my view so fast, precise firing with the Dualshock controller isn't really a thing, so the aim assist, acknowledging that I'm pointing at them well enough, works for me. It's more about just getting them in my sights when I can and firing my lasers. Which is ok, I guess, for now. Still, I wish it was more like XWing and TIE Fighter, since that's what I'm so much more used to. It's too difficult to evade the lasers from capital ships, so I imagine the game is just firing enough lasers at me for the challenge and to caution me to retreat or perform an evade maneuver - same for how enemy fighters fire at me. XWing and TIE Fighter didn't conduct fighting in such scripted fashion - so the challenge here can come off as artificial, but I'll see how it telegraphs as I continue to play. So far, my complaints are light, and it's feeling like a 7/10 - good enough to play once, but not enough to really draw me in and feel provided an experience that I want to repeat because of how much I appreciate it. Squadrons has 14 single player missions in addition to the single Empire and Rebel prologue missions. It also has online multiplayer, which I may or may not try. I may also try the PCVR version on the Oculus Quest, or maybe the Reverb G2 if I decide to get one.
