Cram G.'s video: Robbie Williams Rock DJ Top Of The Pops UK World Premiere 07 07 2000

Locked in the VHS vault for the past 20 years or so, here was the first world premiere pre-watershed play of Robbie Williams “Rock DJ” music video back on the Friday the 7th of July 2000 edition of BBC’s Top of The Pops. This edition of TOTP was part presented by Jamie Theakston, who interviewed Robbie and who introduced his then new video. If you are squeamish, don’t worry, this is the clean pre-watershed version as the full version was subsquently banned by the BBC among others. TOTP Producer at the time, Chris Cowey jumped through lots of hoops until the very last minute to eventually get the unedited version aired. Viewers had to tune into the repeat on BBC One at the wee hours of 1.45am on Sunday the 9th (thanks BBC News) to see a “Skinless Rob” and a bunch of shocked celebrities including Melanie C! The single was released in the UK on 31/07/2000 and topped the UK Top 100 for a week in the August. It aired the following day on BBC One at 7.30pm.
