Crane.tv's video: Indulge Yourself in the Photography of Vancouver s Skating Subculture

We spent the day with Gordon Nicholas, one of Vancouver’s up & coming photographers, indulging in the skating subculture. Finding out why skateboarding is more than just an extreme sport, but a lifestyle. Nicholas has photographed for a variety of skating publications, studios and now works freelance. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia he describes his view on photography as “…an unconscious way to hold on to what so often gets left behind.” Vancouver has a rich and largely unexplored skating subculture compared to the likes of LA, San Diego and other west cost cities along the continent of North America. Nicholas takes his everyday life and curates it, camera in hand, into a journal of good times had with his skate rat, road tripping, couch and concrete surfing friends. While his personal work has a very definite edge his commercial work is finely tuned and highly professional.
