What do You Mean by Invertebrates | CSP Basically there are two types of animals: vertebrates and invertebrates. Vertebrates are those animals that have a backbone or spinal column, which is also called vertebrae. On the other hand, invertebrates are animals that lack a backbone. All the animals that don't fall in the subphylum Vertebrata are invertebrates.
