Composer Ben's video: Ghost

This is a story I started telling five years ago with my mixtape The Fire and the Rage, on which there were two songs, 21st Century Love Song, and Baptized in Fire. These songs told a couple's story from each of their sides of it, of the girl in 21st Century Love Song who faces a difficult reality and choice, and the boy in Baptized in Fire, who leaves his country to pursue the American Dream and becomes disillusioned. Good Enough is the continued story of the girl from 21st Century Love Song. It details the downward spiral of her life after the breakup, and the evolution of her bitterness and cynicism and struggle for inner peace. No one prepares you for victory You're given rules and guidelines, Directions to follow Told to ignore your conscience, Your pride will be swallowed; Then once the high fades You and your triumph feel hollow Glorify the hustle Romanticize the struggle Learn how to fake like your life's not in rubble Because the world loves to see an underdog succeed Social chemotherapy Your illness isn't the one that they treat But they'll wear you down Until you're a stain under their feet And abandon to your recovery In your hour of need And this is the place I find myself missing you the most A host for my attention, and release from grief A miracle in the flesh to restore my belief Instead, I'm the ghost Haunting my own body An ongoing seance Trying to prove something's still here They say the lie comes true if you tell it long enough I am worth the pain I endure when things are rough; But deep down I've known That alone I'm just not strong enough So when they tell me it gets better That bridge is burned before they cross it Raze the field and salt it Call in the airstrike, carpet bomb them I'm well past the point where I can believe that promise, So when they offer their condolences It makes me want to vomit Because they aren't suffering with me And can't imagine what the cost is To actually live the battle and deal with the losses They lament my crucifixion But don't carry their crosses Guess who has the nails And would hammer me in an instant Being dead to the world is a damn tough business Your story's already over While you're trying to live it
