Ammunition is more limited here and even the basic enemy (The raptors) will barely be fazed by the starting handgun. Indeed, this weapon is only ever useful when used to pot-shot dinosaurs behind a laser fence. The T-rex that shows up will kill you in one hit, Like It should be considering it’s a freaking T-rex, yet it only damages you in the sequel. I never managed to complete this game when I was younger due to the greater emphasis on puzzles. Whilst resident evil had its puzzles, they were relatively simple (put jewel in hole, light fire e.t.c), the DDK puzzles found here proved far too challenging for my 8-year-old brain. If your struggling with the DDK’s and trying to do them yourself, remember that whatever the name of the DDK is, is the same letter the password starts with. There is no way to know how many rounds remain in your weapon outside of counting them manually. I believe the ammo capacity is approximately 17 rounds for the handgun, 7 rounds for the shotgun and 4 rounds for the grenade launcher, although this may change slightly based on what weapon attachments you have. The last thing you want is to go and shot at an enemy only to discover you have to reload. When in doubt, go into your inventory and change either your equipped weapon or the ammo type equipped and then change back to the original load-up. This will reload your gun so that you have the maximum ammunition equipped. There’s only two things that let's Dino crisis down in my opinion. The change from pre-rendered backgrounds to full 3D environments left the areas feeling too basic. Whilst the 3d environments did have the benefit of allowing the camera to move with the character, they would not have the technology to make the backgrounds tell the same story until Code Veronica, in my honest opinion. A lot of story was told in resident evil backgrounds, from the paintings on the walls, to the dead slumped in the corner. Here everything is quite basic and clinical, which may be why they set the entirety of the game in a lab type facility as opposed to just the final third act (as is traditional with resident evil games). As a result a lot of the locations are not nearly as memorable or iconic as say the police station or spencer mansion. Secondly the music is not as successful at building tension here. Whilst some of the tracks can certainly stand up to the resident evil music in terms of atmosphere, the combination of late 90’s sci-fi type noises combined with the more classical sounds come across is a bit odd at times. Still, Dino Crisis remains a classic that can stand proudly next to the classic resident evil games, albeit as it’s lesser known brother. There are three endings in total. One ending where Gail dies, one where Dr Kirk dies and a third one where they both live. There is actually three separate ways of achieving this ending, all running on the theme of saying you will do one plan at the final decision point and then doing the opposite. This Walkthrough will show you one of the ways to achieve the third ending (best) ending.
