Guns are replaced with swords; Rocket launchers are replaced with Magical attacks and Green herbs are...well still green herbs. Whilst the insistence on keeping the fixed camera perspective can be jarring for an action game, it’s one of the main reasons why it, resident evil 1 through 3 and Dino crisis 2 have aged so well. To achieve an S rank, you must kill at least 600 demons, absorb over 55,000 souls and complete the game in under 3 hours. I find if you are using this guide, you will kill just over 300 enemies during the main playthrough and 147 kills every time you go through all 20 levels of the dark realm. I actually went through the dark realm twice in this playthrough but edited the second time out so as not to bore you guys. You will notice when I leave the dark realm my total number of souls suddenly jumps up. If you are using this guide and doing little extra exploration, you will likely need to complete it twice to hit the kill count. Save beforehand just in case, but you should have plenty of time. Coming back to this game, I was surprised how tight the controls are and how well they have aged, as well as all the nuances to the combat I never noticed when I was younger. Kaede can do backflips and insta-kill counters!? I actually prefer the ninjas move set overall, even with her diminished power. Samonusuke takes the time to wipe his blade after finishing off a grounded opponent leaving him vulnerable whilst Kaede does a keep stab down followed by a large leap backwards to avoid damage. Later on, Onimusha would receive a re-release in Genma, whereby the game was made significantly harder with the introduction of tougher enemies and tougher enemy placements. I will get around to doing a walkthrough for that version one day… Maybe… Don’t get your hopes up...
