The Chapultepec Park in Mexico City is the perfect escape from the city if you need a little green breathing room. Bosque Chapultepec is massive and a must on your list of things to do in Mexico City. Enter through one of the main gates from the streets or Chapultepec subway stop. If you follow the main pathway you will see the Altar a la Patria. Near the entrance, there are food and snack stands and souvenir hawkers. Pass them, we finally see a bit more of the forests in the park. Bosque de Chapultepec is considered the lungs of Mexico City, helping replenish the oxygen of the city. There are pretty flowers and many tree species like the Montezuma cypress locally called ahuehuetes. The park is divided into 3 sections, 1 section is home to the Lago Menor, a lake that many birds appreciate. Bosque de Chapultepec measures 686 hectares (1700 acres). Besides all the welcomed greenery, it is home to many of the city's attractions, like the Chapultepec Zoo, modern art museum and the Museum of Anthropology. Another popular site is the colonial Chapultepec castle. Chapultepec means grasshopper hill in Nathual, in fact, it was first a retreat for the Aztec rulers.
