@Smallest Ocean In The World – Arctic Ocean - North Pole Arctic Circle Polar bears - Curious Planet
What is going on Guys!! In this episode, I am going to talk about the smallest ocean in the world, the Arctic Ocean. Covered by ice throughout the year, heavily during winters and partly during the summers, the Arctic Ocean is the smallest, coldest and the shallowest of all the five oceans of our planet Earth. This ocean is almost the size of Antarctica & occupies a roughly circular basin surrounded by landmasses of Eurasia, North America, Greenland and several other islands. Some of the countries bordering the Arctic Ocean are Russia, Norway, Iceland, Greenland, Canada and the United States. Due to the amount of ice and the brutal cold conditions, the ocean sustains and serves to stabilize heavy methane deposits along the shoreline averting the release of this greenhouse gas into the atmosphere which would be catastrophic for our ozone layer if released in large amounts. As we all know methane is a strong greenhouse gas with a global warming potential of 104 times greater than C02. Well, that’s pretty deadly. Still, since the ice is continually melting, amounts of methane are continually released into the atmosphere every now and then creating holes in the ozone layer. Scientists…. say that the artic region will be completely ice free in the summers by the year 2040. The melting of ice will also cause large amounts of fresh water to enter into the north Atlantic disrupting the ocean currents patterns also affecting the global climate significantly. Besides these effects on the climate, the melting of ice is making the life of our Polar bears tougher everyday as they have to move to greater distances in search for food. This has increased the encounters between them & us, the humans. The encounters have increased to the point that In February 2019, there was a mass invasion of polar bears into the archipelago of Novaya Zemlya that made the local authorities declare a state of emergency as the Polar bears sneaked into the public buildings & other residential areas to give a high five. This is why polar bears are going extinct. Speaking from an economic standpoint, well that’s the only point every decision maker cares about, the arctic ocean is seen as a region having major energy sources such as petroleum, natural gas & many more. Countries believe that the region may hold more than 25% of the world’s undiscovered oil and gas resources. Music: Sunday Drive - Silent Partner https://youtu.be/Me4Cp2_L07c
