Below is a full overview of the COVID-19 situation in Vietnam as it relates to travelers. The first confirmed cases of COVID-19 appeared in Vietnam on Jan. 23, 2020. Since March 22, 2020, the country's borders have been closed to foreign travellers. Only Vietnamese nationals, foreigners on diplomatic or official business, and highly skilled workers allowed to enter Vietnam at this time. From Feb. 1, 2021 until further notice, anyone entering Vietnam will need to undergo medical checks and 21-day quarantine upon arrival. Foreigners in the country will need to follow the instructions and regulations of the Vietnam Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Below is an outline of new policies related to travel, as well as the health precautions Vietnam is requiring of all locals and foreigners. In response to a new cluster of infections in the north of Vietnam in January 2021, the following precautionary measures have been put in place: Large gatherings and events, bars, karaoke parlours and clubs are suspended in Hanoi. Schools in 16 provinces and cities across Vietnam are closed from February 1 until after the Lunar New Year. Interprovincial transportation with Hải Dương Province is suspended for a period of 21 days. Quảng Ninh Province has suspended interprovincial transportation and tourism operations, including cruises, hotels and restaurants until further notice. All flights and operations at Van Don International Airport are temporarily suspended.
