Prasar Bharati Archives presents Dances of India Kathak Dance by Richa Jain Richa Jain A dedicated young Kathak dancer, Richa Jain started her formal training in Kathak at the tender age of 3 years, under the guidance of her parents; Kathak exponents Guru Shri. Ravi Jain (Disciple of Padmashree Shambhu Maharaj, Lucknow gharana and Alaknanda Devi of Benaras gharana) and Guru Smt. Nalini Jain. Because of her training in Kathak and Hindustani classical vocal music, Richa has the unique feature of Dancing and singing simultaneously. She is one of the few dancers who exhibits this rare quality of dancing and singing simultaneously while presenting Abhinaya( Expressions) on Thumri, dadra, ghazals , geet etc. Kathak Dance Kathak is one of the main genres of ancient Indian classical dance and is traditionally regarded to have originated from the travelling bards of North India referred as Kathakars or storytellers.
