Chapter III In the third chapter, the narrator of the novel describes about the party arranged in the mansion of the Gatsby. Gatsby is famous in the Newyork for his parties. The parties of Gatsby are very grand. People attands the parties to see the car (Rolls Roys) and swimming pool of Gatsby. Live musicians perform in his parties, food is prepared for hundreds of people, unlimited liquor is served. Nick gets the invitation to attend a party. But this invitation is not given by Gatsby. Nick gets this invitation by one of the driver of Gatsby. When Nick reaches to the party, he feels that so many revelers are already there. Among them, very few are invited by the Gatsby. Many of them do not know Gatsby by face. The crowd is having people from both side West Egg and East Egg. Nick meets Jordan Baker there. She lost one tournament of Golf before some days. She tells Nick about that. People in the party are talking about the Gatsby. Gatsby is a mystery for them. Someone is saying that Gatsby killed someone. Someone is saying that he was the spy in the first World War. Jordan and Nick are looking for Gatsby in the mansion. At that time Nick finds a short man wearing spectacles. Nick introduces him as Owl eyes in the novel. They see number of books there in the library. At first Jordan and Owl eyes think that these are not real books. Those books are put in a way that it looks like library. They get shocked when they come to know that these are real books. Nick is talking to a young and handsome man outside in the garden. He thinks that he is very familiar to him. During talk, they come to know that they both were in the same division during the first World War. That stranger man is none other than Gatsby. He is talking in a very simple language. His way of speaking English is very influencing. He is looking at the people who are enjoying the party. Suddenly Gatsby leaves the place to attand a phone call. After sometime he sends his butler to call Jordan Baker. When she finishes the talk with Gatsby, she comes to Nick and says that she heard a remarkable news. It is about 2 o clock of the morning,Nick is moving to the home. He sees Owl eyes there, his car falls down in a pit. He is shouting that your business is finished now. Perhaps he is telling it to Nick. But it's not clear. Nick tells to the reader of the novel that he is not here in the Newyork to attend the parties only, he is also working. Newyork is a city which he loves and hates. Nick is romantically involved with Jordan Baker as it is told by Tom and Daisy. Though Jordan is having some kind of acts of dishonesty, he is attracted towards her. Chapter - IV It's a Sunday. In a party at Gatsby's house, some women are talking nonsense. Nick is listening these. One day Gatsby invites Nick for a lunch in a place of city. He shows him his Rolls Roys car. He asks Nick that what he is thinking about him. As Nick starts thinking, Gatsby starts to tell him about himself. He says that he belongs to a Midwestern city. Nick asks" Which city. " He replies," San Francisco " Gatsby starts to say about his achievements. He says that he studied in the Oxford. And have visited all the places of Europe. After that he enrolled in the army. He was awarded several times in the army. He shows his photoes of cricket during Oxford for proving himself right. He shows the photoes of getting awards by the government. Gatsby and Nick are passing from Valley of Ashes very fast in a car. One policeman stops them. Gatsby shows his white card. The policeman apologize and let them go. After the lunch, Gatsby introduces Meyer Wolfshelm to Nick. Meyer Wolfshelm is a Underwood figure. He was involved in the World Series of 1919. Nick doubts on Gatsby after looking his relation with Meyer Wolfshelm. Suddenly Tom Buchanan reaches there. Nick introduces Tom to Gatsby. Gatsby is felling uncomfortable. Gatsby leaves the place without informing. Nick meets Jordan again. She tells him about that remarkable news. She says to Nick " Gatsby loves Daisy". She says that during 1917 she was with Daisy. Both were working for the Red Cross as a volunteer when Daisy was 18 years old. At that time Daisy fell in love with a young Lieutenant named Jay Getz. Gatsby told her to wait for him till the World War- I finishes. Daisy accepted the proposal of marriage given by Tom Buchanan. Gatsby was far away during the war. Before one night of marriage, Daisy realised her mistake. She went into shock. Jordan says that Gatsby has built his house in West Egg so he can be near to the Daisy. Nick reminds that why Gatsby was looking towards the green light. That light ends at the house of Buchanan. Jordan says to Nick that Gatsby wants him to help for their reunion.
