After a week Drouet meets with Fitzgerald and Moy. He talks with Mr Hurstwood there. He invites Mr Hurstwood to home. He tells Hurstwood to bring alcohol with him. Here the aim of Drouet is too introduce Carrie to him. *Mr Hurstwood is having a daughter (17 years old Jessica) and a son ( 20 years old George) *His wife's name is Julua. Julia is presented as a dull character in this novel. *He is capable of running a home. Julia feels that her husband is having extra marital affair. *Julia gets ready wearing a good dress, when Mr Hurstwood returns. *She spends her much time in theatre. *It is shown in the novel that perhaps Julua is also having relationship with other men. *When Drouet says to Carrie that he has invited Mr Hurstwood and they will have to act as husband and wife,Carrie tells him that why they are not getting married. *Drouet tells him that he will marry with her after finishing a property deal. *Mr Hurstwood comes to Drouet's home. *In few moments Carrie comes to know that Hurstwood is more capable and wiser than Drouet. *Mr Hurstwood does well in front of Carrie as she is the wife of Drouet. *But he knows that Carrie is not the wife of Drouet. *They play the game of playing cards. *Hurstwood helps Carrie to win. *After the game Hurstwood invites both to watch the play in the theatre. *Hurstwood says that he will feel happy if you will move him to the city. *Carrie comes to know that what is good for her in some days. *She finds that what Drouet likes in her like her hair and clothes. *Carrie is attracted by a girl playing Piano living near to her house. *That girl wants her to learn the piano. *One day Drouet calls that girl to his home for dancing. *He does not behave well to her. *That is the first big mistake of Drouet. *One day Mr Hurstwood sees Drouet with a women in a restaurant. *Drouet tells that Mr Hurstwood might think that he is cheating with Carrie. *Next time when Drouet meets to Mr Hurstwood he tries to explain that the women was just a friend of him. *Hurstwoood comes to know that Drouet is not having any fellings for Carrie . *Hurstwood thinks that he will take Carrie far from Drouet. *After some days he invites Carrie and Drouet for theatre. They both accept it. *Hurstwood tries to impress Carrie in the evening inspite of knowing that Drouet is with her. *Drouet is unaware that he is very weak in front of Mr Hurstwood. *Carrie feels that she is having some emotions for Mr Hurstwood till the end of this meeting. *The son of Hurstwood George sees his father to come out from theatre. *During breakfast in the morning, he asks his father what he was doing in the theatre. *Hurstwood lies that he was in a business meeting. *He tells that he was with the friends of his boss Moy. *Mrs Hurstwood does not believe because he refused to go out with her saying that he was having too much work in the office. *Mrs Hurstwood tells him to take her out today. Both started arguing with each other. *Mrs Hale the neighbour of Carrie shows her the houses and cars of rich people. *When Carrie returns to him she thinks that how poor she is in comparision of rich people. *Hurstwood suddenly reaches to the house of Carrie when Drouet is out of the city. *In between the talks he comes to know that Carrie is not happy with Drouet. *He touches the hand of Carrie taking the advantage of situation. Carrie does not stop him to do so. *In the end of the meeting he tells her that he likes her. *After two days Hurstwood meets her again. *He gets fascinated by her as the fly gets caught in the web. *Carrie is unable to understand that what she should do. *She is attracted by Hurstwood in spite of knowing that she should be loyal to the Drouet. *Both Carrie and Hurstwood go out, after sometime he holds the hand of Carrie and tells her that he loves her. Hurstwood tells her that he is alone and he wants her love. Carrie gets kind to him and does not stop him to do so. That meeting ends with a kiss. One of the women of Carrie's apartment notices that Carrie is spending much time with Mr Hurstwood. She starts to investigate the relationship between Carrie and Hurstwood. Carrie meets him again but refuses to do anything serious. She tells him that our relationship should go long. *Drouet returns from his business trip and meets to Mr Hurstwood. Hurstwood acts normally with him. *Drouet tells Carrie that he will get the promotion soon and then he will marry her. *Carrie says that he is not interested in getting married with her . *Drouet says that it is not like that. *Carrie and Drouet go to theatre with Hurstwood on Wednesday. *Hurstwood's family is not in a good condition. *Children are young but they are not having any care of their father. *Mrs Hurstwood is worried because of Mr Hurstwood. *Mrs Hurstwood tells him that bring tickets of Horse race for her.
