There are nine chapters in this novel. Chapter- I The narrator of the novel introduces himself in the starting of the novel. Nick is a tolerant person. He does not make other to listen his judgements. He keeps his decisions reserve. Nick is a graduate of Yale University. He belongs to a midwestern family. He feels that people who did not live life like him will misunderstand . He tried to judge others by their point of view. Nick fought in the first World War and then he comes to Newyork for learning the Bond business. It is the time of 1922 in summer. He stays in the part of Long Island which is known as West Egg. West Egg is a place where recently became rich people are living. East Egg is a place where close minded people are living. Nick's home is near to the mansion of the Gatsby. Nick introduces Gatsby's house as a Great and vulgar mension. One night Nick Carraway goes to attend a party in East Egg. This party is hosted by Tom Buchanan. Daisy is Tom's wife and cousin of Nick. Tom and Nick were classmates in the Yale University. Tom is a rich man. And he was a dangerous player of football in the university. Nick meets a friend of Daisy in the party whose name is Jordan Baker. She is a professional golfer. She looks like a boy. Tom is talking with all during the dinner. He tells other about his ideas which he read in a book named " The Rise of Colored Empires". This book is about racism and white people are shown greater in this book. Tom follows the idea of that book and mend others to follow his ideas. Suddenly Tom moves from there to attend a phone call. Daisy tells to Nick that she becomes more irritable and sophisticated. Jordan tells to Nick that Tom moves to talk to his lover. Nick is returning to his home after finishing the party. He was not happy in the party. When he riches to home he sees a your handsome man. That man is standing there opened his arms toward the sea. It's seems that he is reaching to the green light coming from the other end of the sea. Chapter II In the novel, one place is described that is between West Egg and Newyork. That place is called Valley of Ashes. Tom Buchanan takes Nick to the Mr George Wilson's garage which is near to the Valley of Ashes. Tom is having affair with the Myrtle, wife of George Wilson. Tom forces Nick and Myrtle to roam around the city. He takes them to a flat. They enjoys the party there with sister of Myrtle , Catherine and one of the famous couple McKee. This is the flat where Tom and Myrtle makes their physical relation. All were talking about the Gatsby in the party. Catherine says that Gatsby is like Kaiser Willhelm, one if the ruler during the first World War. He was the much despised ruler of Germany. All are drunk in the party. Myrtle is heavily drunk. Tom gives a puppy to the Myrtle. Myrtle repeats the name of Daisy again and again to tease the Tom. Tom stops her to do so, but Myrtle doesn't stop. To stop her, Tom responds and break her nose.
