President Donald Trump was named the Most Admired Man for 2020, ending former president Barack Obama’s 12-year run, according to a newly released Gallup poll. Eighteen percent of those asked named Trump as their most admired man, followed by Obama at 15%. President-elect Joe Biden, who will take over for Trump in January, was third at 6%. Forty-eight percent of Republicans named Trump this year, with no other public figure receiving more than 2% of Republicans’ votes. Barack Obama was the top choice among Democrats at 32%, down from 41% last year. Biden was the top choice for 13% of Democrats. Michelle Obama was named the Most Admired Woman for the third consecutive year. Vice president-elect Kamala Harris was second in the poll. Most Admired Men 1. Donald Trump – 18% 2. Barack Obama – 15% 3. Joe Biden 6% 4. Dr. Anthony Fauci – 3% 5. Pope Francis – 2% Others receiving mentions were Elon Musk, Bernie Sanders, Bill Gates, LeBron James and the Dalai Lama. This year marks the 10th time Trump has finished among the top 10 men, including four times before he entered party politics - 1988 through 1990 and 2011, Gallup said. Gates has finished in the top 10 a total of 21 times, while Obama has now done so 15 times and the Dalai Lama 11 times. Biden has been in the top 10 once before, in 2018, while Fauci and James are new to the list. Most Admired Women 1. Michelle Obama – 10% 2. Kamala Harris – 6% 3. Melania Trump – 4% 4. Oprah Winfrey – 3% Others receiving 2% or less of the responses were Angela Merkel, Hillary Clinton, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, Queen Elizabeth II, Amy Coney Barrett and Greta Thunberg. Several other women were named by 1% of Americans, including singer Dolly Parton, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, actress Betty White and Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. In addition to the public figures named by Americans, 11% name a relative or friend as the man they admired most while 21% had no opinion. Sixteen percent of Americans named a relative or friend as a woman they admired most; 19% had no opinion.
