Did you know there are 2 types of Corgis? Both are dwarf breeds with large heads and heavy long bodies on short thick legs. However, they dont even share a common ancestor and are separately registered by the AKC. They are 1) The PEMBROKE CORGI and the 2) CARDIGAN WELSH CORGI. The Pembroke Corgi arrive with the vikings and are descendants of the Nordic Spits breeds. they have a docked tail! With the iconic corgi butt. Their coat color is usually red, sable, or black. The ears are medium and round coming to a point. They are more outgoing than the Cardigan corgi. The Cardigan Welsh Corgi arrived from Central Europe. They have a long fluffy tail. Their coat color is more diverse adding in also brindle, blue merle and tan. They have a heavier body type and the personality is more reserved. Both are from whales in the United Kingdom. Corgis overall are very affectionate. They love to be involved with the family and follow their owners wherever they go. They are a cattle herding, working dog breed who have a desire to learn fast and please their owners. Even with their dwarf body type the corgi can reach up to 25 mph using emend upper body strength. Life expectancy is 12-15 years with minimal health issues. Most commonly they suffer from hip dysplasia like other spitz breeds. Regular shedding and grooming routines are needed for the Corgis.
