Vancouver Rally Demands Justice for George Floyd ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Protesters gathered at the Vancouver Art Gallery to demand justice for George Floyd, the black man who was killed this week by a police officer in Minneapolis. The protest, which was not associated with the Vancouver chapter of Black Lives Matter, began with a moment of silence to honour Floyd and other black victims that have been killed due to police brutality. “It’s time to address racism in this country, and stop living in the belief that it doesn’t exist”, said organizer Jacob Callendar-Prasad. The breaking news of Floyd’s death on May 25th has inspired rallies and protests around the world. In Vancouver, the event stayed in Robson Square, with protesters holding signs that read “BlackLivesMatter”, “Silence = Compliance”, and “I can’t breathe” - a phrase Floyd uttered while an officer was kneeling on his neck. The officer has now been charged with third degree murder and manslaughter, though demonstrators are calling for the other officers present at the time to be charged as well.
