How To Increase Your Credit Score Using The Piggyback Method Let's say you are someone who has not established credit. Maybe you are someone who has had some financial troubles. I'm going to show you how to increase your credit score using the piggyback method. This is not new but a lot of people either don't know it can be done or they just refuse to ask. Here is how it works: You may have a parent, relative or close friend who has established a credit file. They have good credit that has a good utilization score, good payment history, no late payments, has least 7+ years old, a good balance of credit (installment, revolving, open credit) a very few inquiries. What they could do is add you to one of their credit cards as an authorized user. What this does is adds their good payment history to your credit file. Now adding you as an authorized user does not mean they are obligated to give you access to their credit card. They are simply allowing you to utilize their good credit by adding you as an authorized user. Their good credit history affects your credit score. Your bad or non-credit history does not affect their score. You should see an increase in your credit score within 15-45 days. It could be sooner. It really depends on when the credit reporting agency updates your credit file. Some have seen it happen instantly. If the above option is not available to you here is another way you can increase your credit score: Some credit card companies offer secured credit cards. A secured credit card will require you to pay a deposit. The deposit is your credit amount. Once you have established a successful payment profile the deposit will be returned to you and you will now have an unsecured credit card. I will list a few options for secured credit cards below.
