Let's discuss the 6 areas that affect your credit score based on importance (from high to low) Credit Card Utilization - Credit card utilization is your credit limits v/s how much of your credit limits you are actually using. To keep your utilization under 30 percent if you have a total of $1500 in credit cards you don't want to spend more than $450 and it is imperative that you pay the entire balance before the end of the bill cycle. - under 30 percent - Credit card utilization highly impacts your credit score. It makes up 30 percent your score. Payment history - Always pay on time - high impact (payment and derogatory makes up 35%) Derogatory Marks - no late pays high impact Age of credit - 7+ years old - medium (15% of your score) Total accounts - 10-20 accounts low impact (10% of your score) Credit inquiries - 0-2 inquiries low impact (10% of your score) ================================================== While we assume everything on our credit report is correct there are times when the institutions holding your account report inaccurate information.
