Daniel Lea's video: Ultimate finish for the blade- and blacksmith

I find this mixture to be great for treating your knife and tool handles, as well as sheaths and other leather products and forged steel surfaces. It is based on the Finnish "terva pellavaöljy" and the recipe is as follows: Into your container add 1/6th (of the volume of the whole container) of pine tar and 1/6th of benzine. Stir until the tar has dissolved in the benzine. Now add boiled linseed oil until two thirds of the container are filled. Mix well. Now heat up the whole mixture in a water bath and progressively add beeswax lenses until the fluid level rose another sixth of the container´s volume. Now you should have about 1/6th leeway to stir without spilling everything. Make sure that everything is dissolved and mixed well. Now make an ice water bath and keep mixing until it thickens up. Once it has a syrupy texture you can put it in the fridge until it is fully cooled. At room temperature it should have a creamy gel-like consistency. Apply with a rag and rub in well. You can take off excess mixture with a dry part of the rag.
