David Gray's video: TRAILER - Appalachian Trail Backpacking - Grayson Highlands VA - April 2017

This is a short (3 minute) 'trailer' showing an assortment of clips from my recently completed Appalachian Trail backpacking trip in the Grayson Highlands of southern Virginia. Bob, a friend of mine from work, accompanied me on this trip as he did on the 2015 Four Pass Loop trip and video. I'm currently working on the full video, which I plan to publish in late May 2017, but as the editing progresses I thought a little 'teaser' showing some highlights would be enjoyable. It was a great trip, and though we did experience some rain and thunderstorms, we were remarkably fortunate with weather (as I was for my 2016 AT Roan Highlands trip). The class of 2017 thru hikers had experienced five days of non-stop rain before we arrived, and as we pulled up in front of the Hiker Inn in Damascus to end our hike, the clouds again opened up with a deluge. Amazing good fortunes! But even with the generally excellent weather, we did get to experience the rapidly changing weather that the Grayson Highlands is known for. We had everything from cool cloudy conditions, to clear blue skies and 100 mile visibility, to hiking in the clouds with mist, 45 degF temps and 50 foot visibility, to thunderstorms with heavy rain, hail and lightning (thankfully while in Thomas Knob shelter), to 91 degF, sunny and humid conditions on the last day.
