Join me as I try traditional Kosovo tavas, marinated lamb, and veal at Restaurant Liburnia! 🚗 RENTAL CAR ALBANIA: https://www.instagram.com/rentalcaralbania/ 🇽🇰 DAVID’S BEEN HERE KOSOVO & ALBANIA SHIRTS: https://teespring.com/stores/davids-been-here After arriving in Pristina, the capital of Kosovo, I jumped straight into a tour of my hotel, the Swiss Diamond Hotel. It’s a beautiful, 5-star hotel in the center of the city. My huge room had a king-sized bed, a TV, a minibar, and a small office area. I also had a luxurious marble bathroom and a large balcony with an amazing view of the city! Then, I headed up to the Penthouse Suite, which is where all the VIPs and famous guests stay! It’s massive and has a humongous living room with three couches and a dining room table. There’s also a private kitchen, a bathroom with a sauna and jacuzzi, a walk-in closet, and a large bedroom with a TV and a king-sized bed. There’s also a private mini terrace with couches. There’s also a Presidential Suite with a huge living room, a huge dining table, a private terrace, and more! Kings and presidents stay there! It also has walk-in closets, as well as marble walls and gold faucets in the bathrooms. Then, my boy Erjan from Travel Media EU and I headed out onto Mother Teresa Boulevard, the main boulevard. It’s pedestrian-friendly and is lined with lots of cafés, bars, and restaurants. From there, we headed to Skanderbeg Square, which is named after the national hero, who fended off the Ottomans for 25 years in Krujë, Albania. Because of his efforts, the Ottomans didn’t go on to take over other parts of Europe. The square is bordered with theaters, mosques, and more. The boulevard is named for Mother Teresa, whose parents were Albanian! There, we met a jewelry vendor. Further along are shops and vendors selling snacks, toys, watches, wallets, and belts. There’s even a mural of Dua Lipa on one of the buildings! Past the Dua Lipa mural is the Newborn Monument, which commemorates Kosovo being the youngest country in Europe. Kosovo earned its independence on February 17, 2008. The average population age there is 27-28 years old! The painting on the monument changes every six months or so. Back on the boulevard, we continued on to Restaurant Liburnia, a traditional restaurant with a cozy, rustic interior. In the kitchen, I met Shaip and watched them grill some meat, make some peppers and vegetable dishes, and make meatballs! I also saw them bake some bread in the oven and cook some amazing tavas. I couldn’t wait to eat some tavas and drink some raki! The pear raki was cold and really amazing! Then, our salad, bread, and mushroom-and-cheese and peppers-and-cheese tavas arrived. The bread was so fresh and fluffy, and the mushrooms and cheese were nice and hearty. Next, we had some fruity, local wine. It was young and delicious! Next, our lamb ribs casserole and veal patties arrived. But first, I dove into the creamy cheese-and-pepper tava. I loved the soft, roasted peppers and the creamy sauce. Next was the lamb, which was piping hot and super buttery and tender. It was unreal and contained yogurt, garlic, and egg with a crispy top almost like crème brulee. The texture felt almost like grits! Then, I jumped into the veal tava. It had several different cheeses in it and was so milky. The different cheeses were outstanding. I loved how unique each dish was. You have to come here to experience all the different sides of Kosovar food culture! Where have you been?
