Join me as I enjoy an awesome Kosovo breakfast, including a cheese and pepper tava and raki at a river bifurcation at Ferizaj, Kosovo! 🚗 RENTAL CAR ALBANIA: https://www.instagram.com/rentalcaralbania/ My day began at Bifurkacioni in Ferizaj, a beautiful city in southeastern Kosovo between Pristina and the North Macedonian capital, Skopje. Bifurkacioni is a unique restaurant and park area that is famous because it sits on the site of a river bifurcation. The Nerodimka River runs through the site and splits in two here. One branch goes to the Aegean Sea, while the other goes to the Black Sea. It’s one of only two river bifurcations like this in the world, where the resulting branches flow to two different bodies of water. Ww were there to have some breakfast and see the split of the river. It’s only a five-minute walk from the city center. There’s also 500-year-old corn flour mills there! The stream is really beautiful, and has lots of terraces nearby with plenty of benches. We headed into the mills, where we saw the machines they use to grind the corn into flour. They only mill the flour during the summer and store it for the winter. Inside is a family of pigeons, and below is the stream. It feels like a several-hundred-year-old house! From there, we headed to the bifurcation. Along the stream are two signs that read Deti I Zi and Deti Egje, which refer to the two seas that the streams flow into. The water level was low due to winter approaching! Then, we headed inside the restaurant to get some breakfast! It’s a rustic stone building but also has a modern feel while still being traditional. There are also some private rooms and a large dining hall. We tried some smooth quince raki and headed into the kitchen to watch them roll out some dough. Elsewhere, they made us some omelets with vegetable, a type of pita bread with cheese, a cheese-and-pepper tava. They also had some veal stew! The omelet comtained broccoli and carrots, and we also had cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and cheese. The cheese-and-pepper tava was outstanding. It contained yogurt and crumbly cheese, and melted cheese on top! It was a simple but delicious breakfast! The bread paired perfectly with the creamy cheese. It’s the perfect thing to dip into the bread! The eggs are super fresh and a little different from regular eggs. They’re farm-to-table, so they were laid today! One of the peppers in the tava was super spicy! Then, we finished up with a double espresso and raki. It gets you ready to go in the morning! Then, the owner gave us a shot of pear raki at the bar. It was really smooth! From there, we headed back outside. I loved the bifurcation area. It was super peaceful and beautiful. There’s even a playground area for kids. It’s the perfect place to relax! Then, we hit the road to head back to Pristina, as I had a flight to catch in three hours. You can either take the main highway or the back roads through the farmland to get there. We also passed lots of factories, textile places, and minarets. The airport in Pristina is the only one in the country. I had a flight to Istanbul and then a 15-hour connection there. In the airport, Erjan and I toasted to Turtle Farm Albania. I tried some amazing Karl Gega sour cherry brandy in the duty-free area, and then went to board my flight. I loved exploring Kosovo over the past 9 days. I loved it and couldn’t wait to come back to experience more of it! Where have you been?
