~中文~ 太平輪沉沒事件發生於1949年（民國38年）1月27日，中華民國中聯企業公司向太平洋船務公司租用的客輪“太平輪”因超載（2,093噸）和於夜間航行時沒有開啟航行燈，在上海開往基隆的途中於在舟山群島海域的白節山附近與一艘載有2,700噸煤礦及木材的貨輪“建元輪”相撞，兩船相繼沉沒。太平輪上共證實932人喪生，而建元輪則有72人罹難。澳洲軍艦HMAS Warramunga救起34人，加上由舟山群島漁民所救的未記名人員，共只有50多人生還。 ~English~ Taiping was packed to nearly twice her rated capacity, carrying over 1,000 refugees fleeing advancing Chinese Communist forces during the Chinese Civil War, when she departed Shanghai, China, on 26 January 1949, bound for Keelung, Taiwan. Some estimates put the number of passengers on board at over 1,500, although the ship was only rated to carry 580 passengers. After midnight on 27 January 1949, Taiping was steaming at night with her lights out, owing to a curfew, when she collided with the smaller cargo ship Chienyuan near the Zhoushan Archipelago. She sank, killing over 1,500 passengers and crew members. Rest In Peace for all souls onboard the Taiping. 希望乘搭太平的每一位安息著。
