Frequently Asked Questions about Prop 115 Does proposition 115 infringe on a woman's basic health care rights? Many people, including Dr. Warren Hurn, say this is an assault and violation of women's right to choose. They also say this violates the basic health care rights of women. This a commonly used theme from people who support late-term abortion. However, by 18 weeks, all the necessary testing can be done to determine the vitality of the fetus. All the genetic and viability testing is done by 20 weeks at the latest. By 20 weeks, a woman will know everything she needs to know about her baby to make an informed decision on what she should do. Dr. Tom Perrille says, “Medically there is no reason at all for a woman to have an abortion after 22 weeks. It is medical malpractice!” Why was 22 weeks gestation picked as the number for proposition 115? Many people that are opposing this proposition such as planned parenthood and Warren Hurn say that there is nothing special about 22 weeks gestation. On a 9 News interview, Warren Hurn said, “22 weeks was just pulled out of a hat. There is nothing special about 22 weeks.” Conversely, Dr. Tom Perrille, MD, and President of the Colorado chapter of Democrats for life says that 22 weeks gestation was picked because it is the age where a fetus can survive outside the mother's womb. Although the survival rate is about 25% at 22 weeks, a fetus can survive in a NICU and live a normal life when delivered at this age. 22 weeks gestation was strategically chosen for this proposition. Are there health conditions that the mother can develop during pregnancy where she would medically need a late-term abortion? There is heated debate over whether health problems to the mother would warrant a late-term abortion. Conditions such as preeclampsia or fetal abnormalities are often brought up as ground for a late-term abortion. However, this is far from the truth. Dr. Tom Perrille has done countless hours of research and spoken with international experts in OBGYN who say if the mother has a health emergency after 22 weeks or 5 months, you would deliver the baby via Cesarean section to resolve the emergent health issue. A C-section takes 30 minutes where a late-term abortion takes 2 to 4 days. You do the math. Why are there contradicting numbers in terms of how many late-term abortions are performed each year? Some news outlets report numbers that are different than what we estimate. The reason for this is that many abortion clinics around the state are not regulated, including Dr. Warren Hurn’s clinic in Boulder. Because they are not regulated, they are not required to report their total numbers. Looking at the data from the state, we can tell their numbers are not completely accurate. Because of this, the numbers recorded by the state are inaccurate. According to a Guttmacher study, in 2019 there were 9002 total abortions. They claim there were 170 abortions after 22 weeks of gestation. 7 However, according to our estimates, there are 400-500 late-term abortions each year in Colorado. It is not enough to just feel compassion! You need to go to the polls and vote. Vote YES on Prop 115 on November 3rd and save 400-500 babies each year. We cannot let this atrocity continue to occur each year. Organizations like planned parenthood are going to outspend us 10 to 1. However, know that the majority of Coloradans do not know about late-term abortion the horrendous procedures that occur. Many people have a stake in keeping abortion legal. It is a huge financial industry! But we have had enough. It's time to stand our ground. This is one of the most important ballot initiatives to come to Colorado in more than a decade. We cannot let fully developed human beings continue to be murdered in our State. We can’t remain silent any longer. The unborn of Colorado is crying out for help. These babies are the most defenseless members of our society. Whether you are a democrat, republican, or independent. A person of faith or of no faith at all, we need to come together and stop these violent acts against the unborn. An unknown fact is that about one-third of all democrats are pro-life! And even more democrats are against late-term abortions. Only the most radical side of the democrat party supports late-term abortion. Let’s come together and end late term abortion in Colorado. Let's join forces and give babies a chance to live in Colorado. Vote YES on proposition 115.
