Desdemona202's video: The Happy Harmonists Ethiopian Nightmare and Baptistown Crawl Gennett 1924

@The Happy Harmonists "Ethiopian Nightmare" and "Baptistown Crawl" (Gennett, 1924)
The Happy Harmonists (later Hitch's Happy Harmonists) Fred Rollison, c / Jerry Bump, tb / Rookie Neal, cl / Dewey Neal, bsx / Curtis Hitch, p / Maurice May, bj / Earl 'Buddy' McDowell, d "Ethiopian Nightmare" (inspired by "Alexander's Ragtime Band") (0:00) Jerry Bump, Rookie Neal - ca. 1924 G11764 "Baptistown Crawl" (2:31) Maurice May, Rookie Neal, Curtis Hitch - ca. 1924 G11763 Gennett Record 5402 Recorded February 23, 1924 Richmond, IN Two sides from the second of three sessions by this pivotal Indiana University based band which later counted, among its ranks, a young Hoagy Carmichael (not featured on these sides). "Ethiopian Nightmare" is a revamped version of Irving Berlin's "Alexander's Ragtime Band," while "Baptistown Crawl" is named after Evansville, Indiana's African-American district. Both feature a rollicking rhythm section dominated by Buddy MacDowell's chinese tom-toms and Dewey Neal's bass saxophone. All in all, some really fun sides by an excellent group! Fun Fact, these sides were cut just five days after the Wolverine's first Gennett side in the same studio.
