Destin Florida's video: A message about our fishing industry

Important! For those who don't know, and a reminder for those who do, the City of Destin was built on the backs of fishermen. In fact, its name comes from a famous fisherman, Leonard Destin. From the beginning, Destin was coined "The world's luckiest fishing village." Today, nearly the entire Destin fishing fleet is tied to the dock. The local service-based businesses have a very short season to make their yearly income. In the words of our Mayor as delivered to our Governor, "Your anti-tourism attitude is an anti-fishing fleet attitude, it harms hundreds of blue-collar fishermen whose heritage founded this community. It threatens their families." Destin's heritage is now sitting docked. We are not here to argue with anyone’s opinions on the coronavirus. We simply have one request. When you next make it to Destin, please consider booking a trip with our local businesses. Plan that fishing trip, go sailing, take a cruise to crab island, get dinner at one of our many restaurants, go parasailing, take that dolphin cruise. Our locals have weathered the winter months and will stay strong through this. We are looking forward to serving you.
