Starring Ned Wever as Dick Tracy and Walter Kinsella as Pat Patton with Keene Crockett on sound effects, this Dick Tracy Radio show aired 4/20/1938 and begins with a Quaker Oats sponsorship advertisement before diving into the eigth of 10 broadcasts in a ten chapter story arc, "The Purple Rider Exposed". In this episode, The Purple Rider tries to escape Dick Tracy and when he is lassoed by the detective he produces a gun and tries to shoot Dick. The gun backfires and Tracy removes the Purple Rider's hood and finds it is Pitchblend resident, Old Man Weir. This feels like it might be the original Scooby Doo plot. Back in the city, Tess Trueheart is approached by Professor Axton Shellby who needs Tracy's help to protect him and his new invention from a ruthless and clever criminal named The Brain. Tess promises to write Tracy in code. Tracy rallies the residents of Pitchblend at a meeting and convinces them to testify against Vernon Kyle and his men, using Junior to shame them to bravery. Meanwhile Vernon Kyle is planning to leave the town, which has become to hot, but first he wants to kill Tracy and rob Pitchblend Bank. One of his men has stolen the letter Tess wrote to Dick.
