A New Way of Thinking | Light DB Chest Warm-up
For your warm-ups AND your working sets of dumbbell bench press, instead of thinking "RELAX" to get the dumbbells down to your chest, and "DRIVE" to get the dumbbells back to lockout, think PULL AND PUSH.
We performed a series of light dumbbell movements to prepare for heavy dumbbell benching in the warm-up today. One of my favorite techniques is to use a SWISS BALL to allow the athlete to actively DRIVE their elbows back and into the ball, before driving the dumbbells back to lockout.
This takes the warm-up from mindlessly performing reps to a mind-muscle connection and creates movement with intention. This simple technique change of PULLING the weights down, activates the upper back (similar to a band pull apart or face pull, and dynamically stretches the chest.
Slow down the repetition and move with intention!
