Johan Slabbert was a South African pipe maker. After his retirement in 1992, he initially worked as a turner, artisan and restorer. Since the year 2000 he has been making tobacco pipes from South African woods, which were sold under the name JoBert. Johan Slabbert had a close friendship with the artist and pipe maker Leon du Preez (LEO-Pipes), also from Goodwood near Cape Town. After the sudden death of du Preez in autumn 2010 Johan Slabbert finished the pipe making and never made a new piece again. Johan Slabbert died after a serious illness on 22. March 2016.
