On World Earth Day, we are again taking an initiative to spread the awareness among people about the millet revolution which has been already started on world health day.
Millets are the humble superfood of Indian Diet from ages.
In India, millets are cultivated in low-fertile land, mountainous and rain-fed areas like Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, etc.
Directly our health is interrelated to Earth because food which we get help in nourishment of our body is being provided by Earth only.
So, being a responsible citizen, it is our responsibility to take care of our soil, water level as well as organic matter.
Why millets are important??
• Millets are the humble superfood of Indian diet from ages.
• They're real fighters because they don't require any fertilisers, water or pesticides to grow; in fact they can withstand drought or even very hot and cold temperatures.
• the best part of millets is that not only are they packed with macro nutrients such as fibre and protein, but also trace minerals and vitamins. These would include iron, vitamin B6 (which helps control high prolactin levels) and magnesium (that is essential for bone health).
• “Millets also provide sustainable energy—they fill you up without feeling heavy and leave you feeling full for a long time.”
• Compared to rice and wheat, millets need less water and chemicals
What are the steps to be taken??
• Establishment of Millets Research Institute in North India
• To provide complete knowledge and awareness about the falling levels of water and increasing barren lands and how to recover them by farming millets.
• Research on various millets recipes and make it available to use by every individual of India.
